What if ATLauncher isn't working?
Manual installation using NeoForgeIf ATLauncher isn't cooperating, don't worry — you can set things up manually using NeoForge. This involves installing NeoForge directly, then dropping in the mods, configs, and datapacks yourself. It takes a few more steps, but it works just as well. Follow the steps below and you'll be good to go.
You'll need a working Java Minecraft installation (via the official Minecraft Launcher) before starting. Make sure you can launch vanilla Minecraft 1.21.1 at least once first.
1. Download and Install NeoForge
Head to the NeoForge website and
click the download button for the latest version of NeoForge for
Minecraft 1.21.1. Make sure you're selecting 1.21.1 and
not a different version.
Once the installer (.jar file) downloads, run it by double-clicking it.
If it doesn't open, you may need to right-click → Open with → Java.
In the installer window, make sure Install client is selected, then
click OK. The installer will download the necessary files and set up a
NeoForge profile in your Minecraft launcher automatically.
2. Test the NeoForge Profile
Open the official Minecraft Launcher. In the profile selector at the
bottom left, you should now see a profile along the lines of
NeoForge 1.21.1-.... Select it and click Play.
Let the game launch all the way to the main menu to confirm everything is working before moving on. You don't need to do anything in-game — just make sure it loads without errors. Once confirmed, close Minecraft and come back here.
3. Download the Mods Package
Click the link below to download the mods package. It's a large zip file containing all of the mods, configs, and datapacks needed to join the server.
Once the download finishes, extract the zip file somewhere easy to find, like your
Desktop. You should see a folder containing subfolders like
mods, config, defaultconfigs,
datapacks, and possibly others.
4. Install the Mods
You'll need to find your .minecraft folder. Its location depends on your
operating system:
Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type
%appdata%\.minecraft, and press Enter. This will open
your .minecraft folder directly in File Explorer.
Open Finder, then in the menu bar click
Go → Go to Folder… and type:
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
Your .minecraft folder is located at
~/.minecraft. You can navigate there in your file manager
(make sure hidden files are shown) or open a terminal and run
xdg-open ~/.minecraft.
Inside your .minecraft folder, you'll find folders that match what's
in the zip you extracted. For each matching folder (e.g. mods,
config, defaultconfigs, datapacks):
-
Delete or rename the existing folder.
If you want to keep your old settings or mods, rename it — for example,
rename
configtoconfig_backup— so it's out of the way but not lost. -
Copy the matching folder from the extracted zip into
your
.minecraftfolder in its place.
Repeat this for every folder that came in the zip file. Once done, open the
Minecraft Launcher, select the NeoForge profile, and hit Play.
If everything went smoothly, the game should load up with all the mods active.
To double-check, create a new Creative world and open your inventory — you should see extra tabs for the new mods' items and blocks, same as the ATLauncher version.
5. Join the Server
From the main menu click Multiplayer, then Add Server.
Give it a name and enter mc.ty-davis.com as the address. Click
Done, then select the server and click Join Server. See
you there!
